On Friday 18 October the Troop visited Heysham Power Station as part of work towards the Community Challenge badge.
After an introductory briefing we were all issued with PPE (Personal protective equipment, for the unitiated) and split into 2 groups to look around the facility. Our guides drew attention to all the salient points as we visited the turbine hall, the control room and the reactor area.
The visit proved to be very informative, and topical, and a lot was learned about the pros and cons of nuclear power generation.
Thanks to Ben for the idea and for setting up our visit and to EDF and the Visitor Centre staff for a very interesting trip.
