New Church Hall 1956

Morecambe Guardian 09 November 1956:

New church hall for Torrisholme

DEMOLITION of one of the two nissen huts serving the parishioners of the Torrisholme Church of Ascension for their social activities, began on Wednesday, in preparation for the building of a new church hall at a cost of £2,000.

The ex-Government huts were bought by the church in 1946 and were erected at the rear of the church. Here the social life of the church was maintained.

In the larger of the two huts central heating was installed, modern lighting fitted and a small stage built.

The smaller hut, which was about 60 feet long and 18 feet wide, is to be pulled down, and the new hall erected on the same site.  On completion the hall will be 77 feet long and 30 feet wide .

A Lancaster firm of contractors, Messrs. A. O. Thoms, have been engaged to erect the building, which is expected to be completed by February.
